Assembling Time

Assembling Time is a collection of short texts, tender thoughts, authentic insights and poetic imagery that takes you on a journey through the landscape of familiar garments and their handmade processes. It’s a glimpse into the systems and mythologies that produce textile artefacts, revealing how they are participants in rich and diverse ecosystems.

Seeking to reflect the tactile and handmade quality of an assembled garment, design collaborator Kris De Freitas brought my writing and research to life through a tender, unfolding and multi-layered book design. The zine was printed on Envirocare with digital and risograph print processes and custom bound with secondhand sewing thread – each spine is unique.

Assembling Time features an article by Kinny Sandhu from Taraiblue, taxonomies of pockets, tools and dyestuffs, reflections on common cloths with not-so-common histories, material spirituality and mythology, process narratives and more.
